I know where you are coming from, Bard....I was that parinoid as well...I wanted everything that came out of me to always be mine. My baby alone...I never shared anything, only with my family and what I sent off to in submissions. I wasted 6 years hiding my work. This place, comicscareers, was the first time I ever shared my work with complete strangers. Thanx for all your help...all of you here!! It was a meeting with a Japanese editor that changed my veiw. Yes, it's a huge risk to take to post your work on public places...but what the others told you is something to follow. You can protect your work. If you have a website you can place a banner for free from Copyscape....
http://www.copyscape.com and then they allow you to do scans to check if anyone has stolen your work. It's quite handy. I posted my work on Deviant art...and now people know I'm out there. You just never know who'll see your stuff and it just might pay off one day.
My first postings and both these sites, I was terrified and lost some sleep over it...but it's been a great experiance...don;t cheat yourself out on that.
