Publisher John Read sent us the most recent issue (#2) of his excellent Stay Tooned! Magazine. Its tagline is “Profiles of Professional Cartoonists,” which is an apt description. The 88-page zine features a long interview with long-time comics veteran Joe Staton, plus pieces on Mike Peters (Mother Goose and Grimm), Tom Bancroft (author of Creating Characters with Personality), Berke Breathed (Bloom County, Opus), editorial cartoonist Bill Day, and Pulitzer prize winning cartoonist Jules Feiffer. You can order this issue or subscribe at www.staytoonedmagazine.com.

Impact Books has released The Insider’s Guide To Creating Comics And Graphic Novels by Andy Schmidt. The 176-page book features tips from the former Marvel Comics editor, current IDW senior editor, and owner of the comics school Comics Experience.

Dave Olbrich is serializing “The Secret Origin of Malibu Comics” over on his delightful Funny Book Fanatic blog. It’s well worth checking out if you’re interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of comics publishing told directly by the former publisher himself.

Brian John Mitchell gives “drawing thumbnails” a new meaning with his itsy-bitsy thumbnail-size comics. He’s publishing three series of 2″x2″ comics: Lost Kisses, Worms, and xo.
